- When a caller dials 911 from a PBX either using 9-911 or just 911, the
PBX routes the call over it’s central office trunks to the Telephone
Company Central Office.
- The Central Office Switch identifies the call as a 911 call and forwards
the call to appropriate 911 tandem switch through 911 trunks via switch
translations or programming.
- 911 tandem performs a lookup on the telephone number placing the 911
call in it’s Telephone Number database and forwards the call to the
selected 911 PSAP trunk.

- No matter which solution you choose there must be a current telephone
number
record in the 911 database to identify the location of each
telephone. In some cases the telephone company will provide these
records. However, if the PBX Owner/User has the ability to perform
changes to the location of telephones within a campus or other facility,
The telephone company will not be aware of these changes and is not
staffed to manage this level of activity. Therefore, the PBX Owner/User
needs a simple yet effective solution to this problem.
- OMALI® is that Solution
- OMALI® is a software program that makes it possible for PBX
Owners/Users to provide “to the telephone” location information and
interface with the existing 911 network without building the stand alone
network required by some systems. PBX systems with ISDN PRI and DID
station numbers with station ID enabled can identify their DID telephone
number to the existing 911 network over the existing Telephone Service
Provider installed 911 trunks.

- To Recap:
- No matter which method is used to connect the 911 caller to the 911
PSAP, a valid telephone number record must be present in the County 911
database identifying the callers location.
- Customers today, have the ability to add, move or change their own
telephones and where those telephones are located. If 911 is to work
correctly, the PBX owner/vendor must have a simple process to get these
changes into the 911 database.
- OMALI is a system that provides the necessary tools to handle this task.
